Aidpage Open Letter: NOW WHAT "BIG BROTHER" NOW WHAT?

To the attention of:

Barack Obama, US President;
Paul LePage, Governor of Maine;
US Senators from Maine: Olympia J. Snowe, Susan M. Collins;
US Representatives from Maine: Chellie Pingree, Michael H. Michaud;
------------------------------------

I think the state of this economy is garbage, it's simply a reflection of the way our government who thinks they know so much can't do a damn thing. They are literally running this country into the ground. It makes me sick. Obama, I actually thought he would fight to make changes but everything he has done has made everything worse, I am so horribly disappointed in him and the fact that he is not what he promised to be. In a country where material things seem tobe the most important thing to so may why can I not offer services to find a way to earn monay for a car? This whole thing just makes me sick. I haven't seen my children in almost a year because of the state of the economy although I have incredibly valuable services to offer in trade or to earn money no one can afford to do anything because the economy is essentially in forclosure. Now what "BIG BROTHER"? Now what? We are on the verge of becoming LESS than a 3rd world country SO I ASK NOW WHAT "BIG BROTHER" NOW WHAT????????

Important Changes are Happening Today

"This is not a budget. This is a cause."

This is how Paul Ryan, Tea Party-backed GOP budget plan author describes their proposal.

Tuesday, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (WI-01) announced the Republican’s budget proposal. It is unbelievably bad - literally. The GOP budget not only repeals the new health care law, it also eliminates Medicare and Medicaid as we know it.

The Republican’s proposal gives millionaires huge tax breaks, but seniors and hard-working families pay more for health care and get less coverage. Paul Ryan’s plan would radically undermine the economic security of America’s middle class. Yet it helps Wall Street-run health insurance companies make record-breaking profits! While the CEOs are paid outrageous sums to deny people the care they paid for and need.

As part of this radical ideological crusade, seniors will be force to clip coupons if they want to see a doctor. It includes huge tax breaks for the ultra wealthy and giveaways to Big Oil companies that are making record profits.

Nowhere in the Republican plan is there any shared sacrifice. There’s no fairness. The big corporations and super-rich are not asked to pitch in. Instead they get even richer while most families are struggling just to make it month to month. This budget would eviscerated programs that everyone in this country depend on. Republicans are attacking the people while pretending to be fiscally responsible!

This budget changes the rules and reshapes this country in a dangerous way. The Republicans and Tea Party backers think they can use the budget as cover to pursue their radical agenda to end Medicare and put seniors’ health care in the hands of Big Insurance CEOs.

But they aren't done with their outrageous demands. They want to do even more to hurt the people!
In this case women specificly - Thursday, April 7, thousands of Americans will descend on Washington, DC, to defend women's health from the extremists in Congress that are determined to roll back access to reproductive health care.

This assault is unprecedented and covers multiple areas. Several amendments have been added to what was already voted on weeks ago in an attempt to push these changes through the Senate. An ammendment that would eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood offers cancer screenings to protect women's health. They offer education, contraceptives and seek to prevent unplanned, unwanted pregnancies. They help those that have been victims or are in hard situations by getting them professional help. Cutting these programs will put more women at risk.

But not one has mentioned how much it costs to raise a child that is placed into the system. No one talks about the many children that wait sometimes without hope for a family to adopt them. Why defund a program that keeps many unplanned pregnancies from happening?

They want to pass legislation that would impose an abortion tax on small businesses who want to provide abortion coverage in health plans. They have bills that would prevent elected officials from using local funds to pay for abortion care for low income and at risk women. This attack on women's rights must stop! Across the nation, people will be standing up for women's health.

Hidden in the budget is more cuts on funding to the Enviromental Protection Agency. This is our one defense against more BP disasters. It's the agency that protects the people by enforcing safety regulations. Protects the environment, the people and our ecology from the "profits before people" greed of these big Corporations. In Pensylvania the water resources are being contaminated due to the coal companies fracking to get at gas reserves. This is causing water to become flamable and not fit to drink. This practice needs to stop!

Already the big Oil Corps are pushing to drill for oil again. Why? With the technology we have right now - technology we've had since 2006 - we could have been using hydrogen for power. We've had the technology to use solar power, wind power and water power! Yet the greed and profit of "black gold" pushes the Corporations - Deep Water drilling has already been given the green light. The guy in charge of the energy commission in D.C. is an Oil Company shareholder. We need the EPA has the funds to function!

Congress MUST hear our voices and know that enough is enough!

Democrats have already ruled out defunding the year-old health care overhaul or to deny Planned Parenthood all federal money. And Reid has said he will not agree to any of the curbs Republicans want to place on the Environmental Protection Agency. Democrats will not just roll over without a fight.

In D.C. this week, hundreds of Tea Party demonstrators rallied outside the Capitol calling for budget cuts and to shutdown if necessary to get their way.

"Shut the sucker down," one yelled, and the crowd repeatedly chanted, "Shut it down."

Is this the America we want to live in? We need to stand up to the bullies on the Hill and take back our rights and our freedoms!

Knowledge

Lack of knowledge is killing my brethren.
I see them on the streets everyday;
I want so desperately to show them The Way.
I yell, I scream, I get up in their face,
But they can't see me, they can't feel me,
They won't let me penetrate their space.
This bubble we live in will surely carry us off to a far away place,
Where there is no light.
We have the Power to leave this place,
Free your mind and find your space
It is vast and not contained don't waste your time being vain.
Turn yourself inside out and find out what your life is about.
You'll be surprised at what you might find
Lurking within the depths of your mind,
Knowledge is key to everything in the universe we see.
Everything is not as it seems.
We are all caught up in a great big scene
Trying to collect that almighty Green.
Waiting for a savior to do us a Favor,
Rapture, Redemption, Religion
How does it all fit in or is it just a prison?
What do you know about it?
You're just its Victim!

Government Grants

I am a 24 year old single mother of two great little boys. I go to college full time, and cannot find work anywhere (I live in Flint Michigan). I was wondering if anyone knows how I go about applying for government grants to get some help for my children and I. We are currently living with my mother and father in a small 2 bedroom home, it is not working out well as my boys are getting older, and need more room. Please contact me and let me know what you know. Thank You so much.

The new healthcare plan - find your coverage

healthcare.gov is a government site that explains how many people will become eligible for health insurance as of SEPTEMBER. The new healthcare law will affect many people in different ways, so please check the site to see how it will apply to you. Everyone without coverage will be affected in some way: Seniors, people with disabilities, Young adults (18-26), families with children, people with pre-exisiting conditions, and employers.

While some employers and insurance companies have already begun to make changes, the majority will comply by September.

Please check the site to see how this new health care bill will affect you.

Stimulus Plan

I have been thinking about the stimulus plan the is suppose to be helping the country. I am not an economist but it really seems simple to me.

The Government should have let the companies that were going to bankrupt fail if they were going to, but if the gvernment gave each household that are legal residents of the US between $150,000 and $250,000 dollars, I believe would have fixed the problem without the mess.

With a stimulus package like this the population would pay off their homes, 1. takes care of the houseing industry, payoff their cars or buy hyrids, 2. helps the auto industry and help cut down the dependency on foriegn oil, Pay off their credit cards, bank loans, student loans, etc., 3. This would put money in the banks keeping the money flowing. The population could start new businesses if they chose to try.

They claim they need the consumers to start buying again, I don't see where this would be a problem if the population had money to spend  instead of how, when and where they would get a job and no money, it would cut down Aid and Welfare.

People would be able to aford the health care we have now. This is all provided for if it was done this way and provided the government laid down tighter rules on the banking, insurance, and credit card industries.

I can't see a down side to this, can you? Oh, yeah, I think we should be taking care of our own people first before thinking about TANF,TARP, etc. We were a lot better off when we werent so worried about making the world as ealthy as we were at the time, now lookat us, and does any of them appreciate it besides the Brits. I don't think so!

Oh, and MOST of all this would be cheaper than the stimulus plan they now have, for example there are approximately 3.5 million, legal, people in the states X$250,000.00= $875,000,000,000.00......that's 875 Billion dollars Not TRILLIONS. think about that a while!

somewhere, something. someway

I just found this site through some google searches. First I want to say its amazing how many ppl are in the same boat when there are soooo many others that dont even notice a difference in their lifestyles with all the hurt in the economy in the past several years. In a perfect world all the rich could take 5% of their income and donate it throughout our country and that alone would make a tremendous difference in so many lives. Our four fathers didnt have this intended for the way our country to be ran. Taxes were suppose to be voluntareed by lower classes and really designed for those who could afford it. Anyways enough of that. I just want to say I have you all in my prayers. I too am in a situation I really wish I could just wake up and and alteast be on the right track. I am so far back I forgot what it feels like to be able to buy a new peice of furniture or a wardrobe of clothes or anything that some ppl do on a daily basis. I am not a lazy person nor am I dumb. I just was born into a poor family and it seems things just end up the way they do regardless of what I do. Not that it was always that way so I know it can be changed but I think with the right head start or a mentor I could get back on track and be truely happy again.

Government Reentry

I have been working as a volunteer on a Piolet Reentry program for moderate to low income people for three years. Trinity Program has won several awards including being the best reentry & best employment service, from the American Bar Association,Criminal Jutice Section out of Washington DC. We are outcome based and our statistics are way beyond the other reentry programs. We have found that if you ask people what they want to do and really listen to them; that you can blueprint a plan for them out of poverty and the criminal justice system. They are given obtainable babysteps to gain confidence and larger steps to obtain their goal. We have seen hope restored where there was none! We have seen recidivisum in Manhattan reduced by 7% due to our efforts. We see people on the tax rolls instead of taking from them. What is different about us, is we work with every agency, service, or government office to obtain the best possible services for the individual, to assist them in succeeding. Our awards speak for the quality of our work. We are a NYS Non-Profit and pending a 501 c (3). What can we do to step away from being a piolet program?

I need surgery but can't afford it

I need surgery but my insurance won't cover the cost until I serve the waiting period. I was recently diagnosed with CIN:3 or pre-cancer. My  doctor recommends that I have surgery within a week or two. Otherwie this pre-cancer will most likely become cancer Stage 1. This type of cervical cancer tends to be invasive as well. I'm 25, single and do not have any kids. If I have this surgery now, I can avoid a hysterectomy for atleast a few years. MY insurance will not cover this surgery until June of 2010, when the waiting period is over. By 2010, my doctor thinks it could spread and I will require a hysterectomy then. The surgery, if I was the pay for it out of pocket, would cost $7,473. I, needlesss to say, do not have that kind of money. Nor can I afford an extra bill at the moment. I am looking for any kind of grant or government program for the under-insured or persons in need of medical bill assistance. If anyone knows any programs that ould help me, or if you need more information, please contact me!!!

Governments Fill Some Needs Better Than Free Markets: Fire Protection, Public Safety, National Defense

Here we go again - about the Health Care Reform... and why we need it:

"...the part of America's health care system that consumers like best is the government-run part.

Fifty-six to 60 percent of people in government-run Medicare rate it a 9 or 10 on a 10-point scale. In contrast, only 40 percent of those enrolled in private insurance rank their plans that high.

...68 percent of those in Medicare feel that their own interests are the priority, compared with only 48 percent of those enrolled in private insurance.

...Until the mid-19th century, firefighting was left mostly to a mishmash of volunteer crews and private fire insurance companies. In New York City, according to accounts in The New York Times in the 1850s and 1860s, firefighting often descended into chaos, with drunkenness and looting.

So almost every country moved to what today's health insurance lobbyists might label 'socialized firefighting.' In effect, we have a single-payer system of public fire departments.

We have the same for policing. If the security guard business were as powerful as the health insurance industry, then it would be denouncing 'government takeovers' and 'socialized police work.'

...The truth is that government, for all its flaws, manages to do some things right, so that today few people doubt the wisdom of public police or firefighters. And the government has a particularly good record in medical care.

Take the hospital system run by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the largest integrated health system in the United States. It is fully government run, much more 'socialized medicine' than is Canadian health care with its private doctors and hospitals. And the system for veterans is by all accounts one of the best-performing and most cost-effective elements in the American medical establishment.

A study by the Rand Corporation concluded that compared with a national sample, Americans treated in veterans hospitals 'received consistently better care across the board, including screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.' The difference was particularly large in preventive medicine: veterans were nearly 50 percent more likely to receive recommended care than Americans as a whole.

'If other health care providers followed the V.A.'s lead, it would be a major step toward improving the quality of care across the U.S. health care system,' Rand reported.

...But the biggest weakness of private industry is not inefficiency but unfairness. The business model of private insurance has become, in part, to collect premiums from healthy people and reject those likely to get sick - or, if they start out healthy and then get sick, to find a way to cancel their coverage.

A reader wrote in this week to tell me about a colleague of hers who had health insurance through her company. The woman received a cancer diagnosis a few weeks ago, and she now faces chemotherapy co-payments that she cannot afford. Worse, because she is now unable to work and has to focus on treatment, she has been shifted to short-term disability for 90 days - and after that, she will lose her employer health insurance.

She can keep her insurance if she makes Cobra payments on her own, but she can't afford this. In her case, her company will voluntarily help her - but I just don't understand why we may be about to reject health reform and stick with a dysfunctional system that takes away the health coverage of hard-working Americans when they become too sick with cancer to work.

...A public role in health care shouldn't be any scarier or more repugnant than a public fire department."

Family Torn Apart

On Sunday August 23rd I went to the airport to pick up my wife who was coming to visit me. She is from Indonesia and we had gotten married on one of her visits in June. When she got here immigration decided to hold her and question her further about her visit.

While I was there I had no idea what was happening. I got there at 12:30pm and finally around 4:30 I asked someone what was going on, if the plane had landed, if my wife was alright, etc. They told me they would look into it. Finally an hour I saw to uniformed people walking towards me. They were dressed in all black which looked quite similar to police uniforms. Right in front of them was the lady I had expressed my concerns to pointing at me.

When they saw who she was pointing to they immediately walked to me and started to question me rigorously in front of everybody waiting outside the doors for their friends and family on international flights to come through. I was extremely embarrassed but was happy to know she was alright and the plane had landed at the scheduled time of 12:30pm.

Apparently immigration had thought that she was going to come and stay illegally instead of returning to Indonesia like she did on her other visit when we had gotten married. I explained to them that we were doing everything legally and she was going to return just like she had immediately after we married. One of the immigration officers said our stories were the same but the other aggressively stated she did not believe us and they both walked off.

Later I found out that they made her get onto a flight and go back immediately to Indonesia because of this. I talked to my wife and found out they held her for over 6 hours and interrogated her like a criminal. There were 3 officers screaming at her while the other 3 were digging through everything she brought including her email they logged into from their computer. They treated her like a terrorist or criminal for something they thought without any evidence. It traumatized her. Then for me to know I was less than 600 feet from my wife that lives 10 thousand miles away and not be able to see her for 1 second was the worst part.

My question is why does the government consider this such a "free" country if we're unable to choose our own partners regardless of where they're from? She is not a terrorist, she's 5'4 and 105lbs. She is the sweetest person I have ever met with a smile that can make lights up the darkest day. She did absolutely nothing wrong. We got married legally and just wanted to spend time together.

They cancelled her visa so now we won't be able to see each other for at minimum 9 months. and even being able to see her then will be pure luck, it all depends on if everything we filed goes through USCISproperly and without hitch. Why can they choose who I can be with? Who I am able to love? I love her with everything I have, she's my soul and I would give the world for her.

I have been in tears for several days now because of this. I now know what it feels like to have a terrible thing happen to you and there isn't anything you can do about it. Betrayed by my government.

Our government is not as pretty as people try to make you believe. The saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" is definitely applied here. Are we really as free as we think?

All I wanted was to spend time with my WIFE!! My wife. This hurts more than anything I have ever experienced. Up until now I have loved my country. I understand port of entry security, but just because they think something gives them the right to prohibit me from seeing my wife for such an extreme amount of time? What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I might as well mention this last thing. They say they stopped her because she had so many clothes!! Hmm, I wonder why. Maybe because she was going to be staying here a month.

This is going to be very expensive for us and we exhausted all of our funds for her ticket to come visit.  We need help from anybody that can. I am unemployed due to a severe motorcycle accident and the economy, and my Wife works but makes very very little in Indonesia (around $110.00 a month).  I have a link on my profile to another blog where you can donate via paypal.

I will also update my blog on that site every day or two if anyone wants to keep track of our progress.  We really appreciate you taking the time to read this anything you can do to help.

Sincerely,

Ryan

Does It Make Sense ?

I've been disabled since 2006 because of Lung Cancer, they took half of a lung out, and so far with all the blood work, there is no sign of a reoccurance. Thank God! I filled out all the papers and did all the test to see if I qualify. One of the test was to sqwat to walk like a duck while I was still healing, approximately a month after surgery, and I could use my cane  IF I wanted to. They care so much for us.

I was eligible for Medicaid but not food stamps. With Medicaid I was eligible for a spindown program, because of SSA payments that were more than SSI payments. I would have to pay approximately $400.00 a month for (free) medical with co-pay. There are programs out there that are cheaper, about $198.00 a month, but I didn't have anyone to ask what or who should I talk to on whether it would effect my SSA disability. I was assigned a social worker to handle my case. Luckly, with what I am paying to the hospital for the surgery and subsequent visits, is deductable, along with the cost of medications when Medicaid isn't covering me, thus it's almost a month by month basis.

When I first signed up for Disability, I asked, ""Why in God's name am I on a spindown program when I'm disabiled and I'm not able to work?" It was explained to me that because my SSA payments were higher than the alloted amount(SSI, I imagine) that I would have to pay the excess. "So, I'm being penalized because I worked all my life and didn'lt make it to retirement before needing help?" I was assured that was not the case, it's just the way it is set up????? Boy, now that really assured me.

Now that it's been over two years,  I qualify for Medicare. I get this notice telling me that I qualify, and I need to send information for them to make a determination on whether I get extra help with my prescriptions. I sent a letter that explained that nothing had changed to use  what was on my application when I applied for Medicaid.

In the mean time I started receiving statements from the main office in Springfield telling me that my spindown was $278.00 a month and which months do I want to pay for. I try to contact my case worker, like a few times before, no reply, either out sick or on vacation, asking which do I pay the $400.00 amount or the $278.00 amount.

Which really made me wonder , if I've been paying to much all this time? But, I knew that if I asked some one would take it as they had been cheating me, and I would never know whether I had rights to reclaim that money or not.

I asked my caseworker the above question and I didn't get any reply. I received another statement with the same amount. I just send in my receipts, knowing it will not help to ask again.

I'll go back to tha part about Medicare and the reply of mine about going off the application I signed when applying for Medicaid. It was denied! I called up, couldn't talk to anyone because the lines were busy, try again tomorrow. I do, the same thing. So , I go on line using ' contact us' and ask them to call. They do. I send in my bank statement andI get qualified for the extra help with medications. The reason for denial, they didn't get the information they asked for?

I receive another statement from Springfield, THIS time the amount is $382.00.I call up the caseworker, I make contact the first time, I ask her why the big jump in cost, there was a small, very small increase in February. She says that it shouldn't have raised that much. Let's hope not!! I mention that I got help with prescriptions, that wouldn't effect it that much would it? She said no, that she had to make adjustments for a few others and she'll get it changed. I thought and have been led to believe that Obama's plan was to help those in need of the health care system, nothing was said that the Government will give and then the states shall take. It still leaves open the question on whether I paid too much all that time or not, would I be intitled to a refund?

You tell me, Does It Make Sense to treat people who are disabled, or people who need help, this way????   Yet, we are.

DTV

I think that it would be a good idea for those of you who haven't gotten their $40 Off coupons for being able to purchase a digital tv converter - you should go ahead and apply for them now.

I say this because at the time I signed up for mine it was in the news that the government had run out of the coupons and that it might be a while before they had the funding to issue some more. But I decided to apply online anyway. And guess what? After forgetting about it, I got my two coupons in the mail about three weeks later!

So if you still want the coupons then you should apply for them before time runs out! You can find more information about this from my Working From Home Blog.
